Dr Andrew Byrne, MB BS (Syd) FAChAM (RACP)

Andrew is a third generation general medical practitioner from Sydney Australia. He sees referred patients with addiction and pain management problems. In 1986 he was one of the first Australian GPs in New South Wales to prescribe methadone for addiction. He has treated up to 100 patients at a time since then and has published his practice results on numerous occasions. He has also published many letters, commentaries and lighter ‘opinion’ pieces in such journals such as the Australian Medical Journal, Addiction Research, Journal of Maintenance in the Addictions, British Medical Journal, Addiction, British Journal of Psychiatry, Australian Family Physician, The International Journal of Drug Policy and the New York Times. His two books on addictions have been well received and are now available on the internet.
